Awesome Sunset Spots In The Peak District

Last weekend, to round off the bank holiday weekend we headed up to the peak district for a few hours. We’re lucky to have it on our doorstep really and often head out for a walk or a day out. A change of scenery is usually during the day though and it can get crowded.

Last summer I saw loads of posts on Instagram and Facebook from friends who had headed out to see some sunset spots in the peak district and FOMO got to me. It’s not as easy as just going out though because it had to be a time when we would see a decent sunset and it is dry enough on the fields for the kids to run around without being so muddy that we can’t enjoy our time together!

So the time that was right last Monday, was a perfect way to end May and the long weekend. We drove into the Peaks. From home it’s approximately a 30-minute drive towards Hathersage, stopping at the car park for Surprise view.

We arrived at the car park at about 7.30 pm with nothing to pay for parking at this time on a bank holiday. Bonus! The parking meter was one that you can pay using your phone so no need to have spare change.

Where to Park in the Peak District

There are a couple of tracks you can take from the car park. We headed up the one on the left side of the car park and followed it up. We were greeted with the most glorious views! There’s also plenty of space for the kids to run and play. I took the opportunity to just sit and be, it’s not very often I do that! Sunset was around 9.20 pm that night, we stayed and watched the sky change from light pinky-purple tones to orange. Just beautiful.

A nice free trip just for the cost of a little fuel and every night since they have asked to go again. I’m so thankful for the area we live in and grateful for some lovely weather. May was such a washout mostly but it finished with glorious sunshine!

I’d love to know if anyone has any recommendations for other Sunset sports in the Peak District, preferably on the Sheffield side of the Peaks but we are happy to drive a little further for the right place, those memories are worth it!

Enjoy the photos I took, They are unedited and taken on my phone.
