Kardamena, a small coastal town on the island of Kos in Greece, is known for its beautiful beaches and crystal-clear waters. But what many visitors don’t know is that Kardamena has a thriving food scene with plenty of delicious eats to try. Here’s a foodie’s guide to the best restaurants in Kardamena:
1. Avli Restaurant
Located in Central Square in Kardamena, Avli Restaurant is gorgeous. Unlike a lot of the other restaurants in Kardamena, this one stands out due to the beautiful courtyard setting. Pretty, and although in the busy Central Square, as soon as you set foot inside you are transported to traditional Greece. Avli Restaurant offers traditional Greek cuisine with a modern twist. I visited on my first trip to Kos in 2003, the feta stuffed burger I had then blew my socks off.
We’ve returned since and have never been disappointed. It won’t be the cheapest place you eat during your visit to Kardamena, but it will be memorable. Open daily from 5 pm between May and October, I highly recommend a visit. You can even book a table if you want to avoid disappointment.
2. Teo’s Taverna
On the harbour, Teo’s stands out with its bright blue seating. A traditional taverna, it’s good at traditional Greek dishes. it’s small and perfectly formed, and the views are to die for. Charming little place, and I would highly recommend visiting.
3. Tasty Corner
Ok, so this isn’t in the same league as Avli but hear me out. Lunchtime arrives and all you want is a good Gyros and a cold beverage, this is your place. Great food with vegetarian options too. Get yourself down Bar Street to cool down and fuel up ready for the rest of your afternoon by the beach or exploring the island. Great place and great value. It won a Trip Advisor Travellers Choice award in 2022, so don’t just believe me!
4. Posidonia Restaurant
Right on the beach, the perfect location for a lovely traditional meal. Head along the beach to find Posidonia and treat yourself to some great seafood, there are vegetarian and vegan options. It’s not the kind of place for a burger, but for good Greek food that won a Trip Advisor Travellers Choice award, it’s the one.
5. Taratsa Kitchen Bar
This is where we chose to have our wedding breakfast. Another hotel with a stunning location of the harbour, Taratsa Kitchen Bar has a wide variety of Mediterranean and Greek dishes to suit all tastes. The food is very good. It’s not a top end of the budget kind of place, mid-range food but top-range food! Another one that deserved its Trip Advisor Travellers Choice award. Up there as one of the Best Restaurants in Kardamena.
Whether you’re looking for traditional Greek cuisine or something more international, Kardamena has plenty of options when it comes to dining out. So grab your appetite and head to one of these top restaurants!
